Lizzie Newell devotes herself to science fiction, art, and community service.
Her art and costuming have received awards in the Anchorage Fur Rondy Snow Sculpture competition, Glasgow Interaction Worldcon masquerade, SeaTac Cascadia NASFIC art show, and Montreal Anticipation Worldcon masquerade.
KTUU Alaska received an award for reporting on her annual neighborhood ice garden.
Her published fiction includes novels Sappho’s Agency, The Fisherman and the Gene Thief, Annin’s Bargain, and short stories “The Wolves of the Solstice’ and “Under an Airless Sky.”
She and her husband led Netday 2000 Alaska, which successfully installed computer networks in every school in Alaska by the year 2000. After her husband passed away, she continued volunteering with voter registration, poll watching, campaign finance reform, and serving on her community council.
As the Anchorage Bus Fairy, she advocates for public transportation. She rides the bus, shoveling snow and picking up trash at bus stops, and gives out bus passes funded by her Patreon.
